Case Study – Health and Safety Laboratories
Background
The Health and Safety Laboratories are part of the UK Government’s Health and Safety Executive. They had a small Horizon Scanning Group who were finding it difficult to gain the attention of the Board on the implications of their findings.
SAMI’s Role
SAMI worked with Infinite Futures and the HSL Horizon Scanning Group to develop scenarios. The methodology chosen was to engage with the senior management and Board at four stages:
- Interviews using the SAMI 7 Questions, to set the agenda
- A two day workshop top develop the scenarios, with 30 people
- A one day workshop to wind-tunnel the scenarios, with 30 people
- A conference for about 100 people including the senior managers, Board and stakeholders, to examine the implications of the scenarios.
The Outcomes
The conference and Report were widely regarded as important contributions to establishing the role of the Health and Safety Executive.
SAMI Is collaborating with the HSG on a project for the EC Health and Safety Agency (EU-OSHA) to explore the health and safety implications of Green jobs.
